Description
John Hinde was a famous chronicler of the Irish landscape in the early days of colour photography.
His sometimes quaint images were often heavily saturated, making them seem a little unreal.
But here's the truth - Hinde wasn't always making it up!
And the proof is this magnificent view from the top of Geokaun, the highest point on Valentia Island, County Kerry, on a perfect picture postcard summer day.
In the lower left-hand side can be seen Valentia Lighthouse at Cromwell Point.
A little further out, In the middle distance, is Beginish Island. And on the distant horizon, if your knowledge of the Kerry landscape is good enough, you can just make out Carrauntoohil, Ireland's highest mountain.
It's a bit of a trek to the top of Geokaun. But as you can see here, it's well worth the effort.
