Description
The Irish Sea, compared to the great Atlantic Ocean on the other side of the country, is like a little paddling pool. You'll rarely see mountainous waves on the Irish east coast. But we still have our exciting moments.
This is Mornington beach on the seven-mile coastline of County Meath, just south of the River Boyne Estuary.
The strength of the gale was forcing the waves to blow back on one another - an effect caught here very nicely in the light of a late February afternoon. The object in the background is a large navigational marker at the mouth of the Boyne.
