Driving towards Dunlewey, County Donegal, on a clear December morning, the landscape ahead resembled what I imagine Arizona might look like.
Not that I've ever been to Arizona - at least not yet. But the enormous sky and the broad sweeping landscape conveyed a kind of never-ending vastness that we don't usually associate with Ireland.
Donegal is probably Ireland's most scenic county. But its slightly out-of-the-way location in the Irish north-west results in fewer visitors than the big hitting counties further down the coast.
Remedy this now by putting this stunningly beautiful part of Ireland on your 2019 must-see list.
