Description
Nobody really knows how or why Murder Hole Beach, at the top end of the #Rosguill Peninsula in County #Donegal, got it's grisly name. It's proper title is #Boyeeghter Bay.
What's beyond doubt is that it's one of the most spectacular beaches anywhere in Ireland. Its secluded setting amid rugged cliffs, small caves and steep sand dunes is ridiculously beautiful.
However it takes a bit of effort to get there. Forget about driving. There's no car park. There isn't even an actual road.
Access requires a cross-country walk through rough privately-owned fields and farm animals. On the day we walked it, I have to admit being slightly disconcerted by the bull.
Murder Hole should be accessed at low tide. Dangerous currents preclude swimming. So walk, sit, look and enjoy while breathing in the natural surroundings. It's a very special place.
